noted, speeding up queue noticeably with this update

A system where you can indicate the elo range you want to match with is ideal: you can decide yourself whether you want a small elo gap or quick matches.
(I will keep saying this)

i mean only up to a certain extent.

even if the top player is putting themselves and no one else at risk by queueing people hundreds and hundreds of elo below them, they will still feel like shit to queue a top player and get stomped when they wanted a fair match. it is borderline impossible for me to agree with an implementation like this unless it was done REALLY strictly.

If the lower rated player wanted a fair match they shouldn't have extended their queing range to include the top player

Both players need to have a big range for a big elo gap match to happen, not just one
Artnautalast week(edited)
Not 100% sure what you mean with strictness?
mayalast week
just heavily limiting how much you can extend your queue range, in either direction (higher or lower)

i do not think it makes sense to facilitate matches where there is a huge skill disparity, because it inherently nullifies the necessity of quick play, and frankly if you wanted to play a quick match against anyone of basically any elo instead of playing a relatively equal, close match (which is what i personally want out of any ranked play experience in any game), why not just queue quick play instead when you stand to gain literally 0 elo from queueing someone much lower in ranked.

just my two cents, at least.

People will still care about their elo and adjust their ranges accordingly. Only players who use the feature will experience its effects.
You play qp for quicker, easier, ratingless matches. Allowing larger ranges in compet doesn't mean it's suddenly unranked too..

I agree that it doesn't make sense to have matches with 0 elo gain, the range should be limited to not allow that. Which would be a max ~400 elo gap? Not sure with the new rating system
mayalast week
ok we have functionally the same opinion then, lmao.

i think even still, qp fills the theoretical void that this functionality would attempt to fill, since, as you said, they are quicker and easier matches, and i would argue myself that they are also functionally ratingless if you are only gaining like 1 to 5 elo, for example. if anything it just adds the extra stakes of losing WAY more elo than you normally would.
Artnautalast week
when I say quicker & easier I mean also the gameplay not just the queing
mayalast week
oh? interesting.
Artnautalast week
and I don't really understand what you mean when you call something with stakes and with elo "functionally ratingless"
mayalast week
ah i guess you mean qp.
mayalast week
i mean mostly in terms of gains, tbh.
mayalast week
i do not see what incentives a higher ranked player to Intentionally queue substantially lower than their elo range at high cost and very low reward.
mayalast week
when qp exists.
Artnautalast week
just bad return on investment ok

Hooray we agree :)

yippee!!!!

i think the concept is interesting, regardless, and as long as the possible range is not literally unlimited, i don't inherently disagree with the idea from a fundamental standpoint!
mayalast week
but it is kind of different to the subject of this thread, so i will personally stop talking about this here x).
