Structure
ive been looking into someones idea that ancient cities can be detectable because there are a lot of chests.
so this thing on screenshot on piechart that shows how much of the computation time chests take (0.08% in this case). on 6rd on my system if its >=0.06 there is prolly an ancient city somewhere in 6rd. and if its >=0.08-0.09 there is prolly an ancient city right below me.
by probably i mean was correct 9/10 times in my testing. 1/10 miss was 3 dungeons 30 blocks away from each other. and all of these 10 checks were done inside <-0.375 erosion to make sure deep dark can even generate.
6rd was chosen by me as an option balancing between too huge of a circle to be useful and too small of a circle to capture enough chests in ancient city in some spots.
this post is for
1. other detection ideas
2. ideas on how to guess where ac is once you know its in 6 or smth rd radius
3. other people testing this on their setups in diff conditions to see if its really as consistent as the results i got

i've heard that preemptive is good for this too
Uniquepotatoes3 weeks ago
idk when ud want to look for an ancient city and you dont have ancient city seed type
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
xp bottle on board and erosion is very low, it's possible
Uniquepotatoes3 weeks ago
yea i guess that could be one
hsetOP3 weeks ago
i didnt even know there was ancient city seed type till today

for block entity pie, should be able to do the same thing as tc finding but looking for chest % spike instead of trial spawner appearance
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
actually maybe not
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago(edited)
the chests don't load in all at once because AC is huge, they're not all in the same chunk
hsetOP3 weeks ago
was there any tutorials on how to do that or preemptive? because i feel like i never seen one even though i check everything in resources etc
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
there is nothing in resources for it but i've been doing preemptive for a while, i did it before bird's eye to find structures
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
one sec i'll see if i wrote anything about it
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
ah yea i just wrote down the steps in my notes
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
Steps:
- Set 50% entity distance and 8 render distance
- Open pie chart to
- Use tall macro and/or 30 FOV
- Spin around for a pale yellow
- Travel in that direction
- Restore settings afterwards
- Set 50% entity distance and 8 render distance
- Open pie chart to
root.frame.extract.level- Use tall macro and/or 30 FOV
- Spin around for a pale yellow
blockEntities spike while spamming F3- Travel in that direction
- Restore settings afterwards
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago(edited)
i like to hold f3+1 while spinning so it spam closes/reopens pie at key repeat

ig preemptive is somewhat a solution for 2.

Finally, the preemptive tutorial ive been looking for

i'm actually struggling to get preemptive working for finding ancient cities from the surface
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago(edited)
iirc preemptive is affected by sub-chunk culling like e-ray and c-ray
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago(edited)
if i'm already in a cave that is next to and connected to the AC, preemptive is correctly pointing me towards it. otherwise i get no spike
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
i think setting 4 rd, crossing chunk borders, and checking the chest % on block entity pie is the best way to go
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago(edited)
follow increasing % to find a chunk with a pretty high %, doesn't have to be perfect cause AC is huge. then just dig straight down
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
2 rd isn't ideal because you could get duped by 2 chests in a dungeon
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
4 rd seems to sample enough of the AC for a high chest % that's clearly not a dungeon spike
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago(edited)
and higher rds sample way too many chunks to get info on the immediate surrounding area

Dont worry guys, Sift portal frame block will be pie-chartable

If this link works , i asked mongey a while ago to show how he finds them in games cuz he's really accurate with it and i clipped it , could be helpful here! https://www.twitch.tv/bigbigmongey/clip/HappyMuddyPeachHotPokket-I-ryvQ3McPfuJO46
Watch bigbigmongey's clip titled "ancient city tutoiral"
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
ok so exactly what i came to lmao
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
good to know it's corroborated

This is long known tech, it's described in the modern version AA doc https://docs.google.com/document/d/19pLqCk0MrOJmcqnChcLHVVgmrS6FYCL1bgPybkuH02E/edit somewhere there I cba to link it
This page intentionally left blank

I didn't know that so how is it long known
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
long known by those in the know :p

GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
that doc is a nice resource for draftout too though. obviously a lot of the info is not relevant
diggitydingdong3 weeks ago
I have been learning a lot for AA from draftout discoveries too
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago(edited)
draftout is like AA but you have to frontload everything with no resources
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago(edited)
so you have to learn how to do bullseye with an item frame and a fishing rod
hsetOP3 weeks ago(edited)
is looking at the bigger number which indicates % in the dir more or less consistent than looking at the smaller number which indicates % from the whole?
Comeradelast week
I saw something on the 26.3 AA doc about Ancient cities only spawning on certain increments of chunk coords. 24n+8 on both axis I think
Comeradelast week
Idk how much that helps
Comeradelast week
Found it

sooo if theres a tc nearby will te numbers be different (more chests and tc stuff takes up space)
Yumeowtismyesterday
oh wait I'm the main author of this document
Yumeowtismyesterday
it's the center of accessible region (of ancient cities), and since ancient cities are huge, they can also generate outside of that region
Yumeowtismyesterday
digging from the center gives you highest probability of success, but the current meta is simply scan chest subchunks
Comeradeyesterday
Oh wow
can I get an autograph?
Yumeowtismyesterday
what autograph?...
