Standardize Wheat Seeds from Short Grass, and Bone Meal on crops
Open

gameplay
I checked a replay and counted short grass. I got my first wheat seed on the 22nd short grass that I punched, while my opponent got their first on the 10th and their second on the 11th that they punched. This allowed them to get Breed Chickens ~20s faster than I possibly could have because we were in a forest without a lot of short grass around.
EDIT: Also, it turns out that bone meal is not standardized, meaning it may take you 3 bone meal to grow a beetroot seed to maturity while it takes 8 bone meal for the opponent. This should be standardized too, per crop type.

absolutely agree, but i was wondering if the issue stems from punch short grass and tall grass in a different order
GracefulBeautyOPlast month
it was all short grass, although we were both punching leaf litter at the same time
sugaarushlast month
similar to how killing a mob with looting and then without can give u different drops than if u kill without looting and then with looting
sugaarushlast month
o huh u said tall grass in the post tho

GracefulBeautyOPlast month
i feel like short grass used to be called tall grass to differentiate it from grass block
sugaarushlast month
oh
sugaarushlast month
tall grass is the two block one fs. i donโt remember what the short grass or grass block naming is
GracefulBeautyOPlast month
ok so short grass used to be called "Grass" until 1.20.3 in Dec 2023 lol

also would like to mention leaf drops bc they can matter a lot for apple and sapling drops
GracefulBeautyOPlast month
i am wondering now what other rng block drops are not standardized

GracefulBeautyOPlast month
could test in a lobby tbh
sugaarushlast month
i wonder if this is a bug more than a missing feature

i'll update this message with findings from lobby:
- crop yields are standardized, but bone meal required per crop is NOT standardized (potato, carrot, wheat, pumpkin stem, melon stem, beetroot, sweet berries, cocoa beans)
- note that bone meal on sweet berries / cocoa beans does not have rng in vanilla anyways
- composter levels are standardized for leaf litter
- drops from leaves are standardized (oak, mangrove, azalea, flowering azalea)
- drops from ores are standardized (copper, redstone, lapis, nether gold) but are standardized SEPARATELY from their deepslate variants (think leather from cow vs horse)
- drops from glowstone, creaking heart, sea lantern, and gravel are standardized
- drops from dead bush, fern, and large fern are standardized
- drops from short grass are NOT standardized
- drops from tall grass standardized, but the top and bottom halves are standardized SEPARATELY from each other (think leather from cow vs horse)
- cat taming is standardized

were both of you breaking the same half of the tall grass? i wonder if it's different if one person only broke the bottom half and the other broke top
noura ๐last month
every loot table is standardized and seed dependent, the only ones that are gonna be weird are niche edge cases like this one
noura ๐last month
it's like how a couple versions ago you would have been able to mine the top half of an iron door with your fist and it'd drop, but it wouldn't if you mined the bottom half

GracefulBeautyOPlast month
yeah so for tall grass, top and bottom halves are standardized independently, like cows vs horses
GracefulBeautyOPlast month
short grass is straight up not standardized, though
noura ๐last month
oh wait mb i swear your post said tall grass
GracefulBeautyOPlast month
it did, i edited it
noura ๐last month
okok
noura ๐last month
that's really strange though,, i'm not sure what's causing that. unless it's worldgen bs like one player using a higher rd that loads a waterfall that breaks a bunch of short grass before the match starts, while the lower rd opponent doesn't have that happen

after the lobby testing it does seem the short grass situation is definitely not intended
noura ๐last month
if i wasn't at uni rn i'd be doing some singleplayer testing
noura ๐last month
cause like seed dependent block loot tables is entirely a vanilla thing
GracefulBeautyOPlast month(edited)
other suggestions i would make after this testing:
- standardize bone meal's effects on crops (big deal if both players compost leaf litter to force bone meal for a goal like breed sheep)
- standardize regular and deepslate ores together instead of separately (if one player has to mine 12 deepslate copper ore and their opponent only mines 5 regular copper ore for full copper armor that's kind of unfun, although that's the most extreme case)
- standardize top and bottom half of tall grass together instead of separately

i'll +1 that

should i combine it with this thread or would separate suggestions be better?
giantfunguslast month
This will change draftout forever.

combining it is fine imo, as long as the title of the thread is easily searchable (something like "standardize bone meal, stone/deepslate ores, and top/bottom tall grass")
GracefulBeautyOPlast month
title too long
ok i will split it out a bit

samlast month
How sure are you
samlast month
I think itโs standardized together, at least based on the code
samlast month
And I think itโs basically something like this. So imo standardizing player-broken small grass is important
GracefulBeautyOPlast month(edited)
the tests for tall grass were a little scuffed. i wouldn't mind testing it again
Elliverslast month
this is definitely standardized in vanilla. depending on the seed, block #x broken in the world will always drop the same thing (under the same conditions)
Elliverslast month(edited)
Elliverslast month
hmm no both
short_grass and tall_grass have their own loot tables, with separate sequencessamlast month
would it be helpful if i put together some info on what's standardized in vanilla? rn https://learndraftout.com/standardization is just what draftout standardizes that vanilla doesn't
GracefulBeautyOPlast month
it may be helpful, yeah. i don't know what the deal is with short grass specifically
