something like a mix between quickplay and comp
5x5 board
1.25h
no elo change
no skillbased match making (pure randoms)
entirely for practicing comp without the stress of elo

This is just what quickplay is, a way to have an easy and stress free way to play the game

If you want longer games you can do lobbies as well
Mercury | MudBrickWallOPlast month
yeah but the 4 by 4 board and shorter games make it more annoying to practice longer matches like in comp also needing to do a lobby everytime for something like this is just a hassle

You can also practice ranked mode by playing ranked mode if you're not satisfied with those options, that's the best way to get better
Mercury | MudBrickWallOPlast month
yeah.. the point of this is to do that without elo punishment and in a more casual way

A third mode means 33% slower queues for everyone (if ppl evenly split), and that's assuming that people don't quit the game due to the long queues
Mercury | MudBrickWallOPlast month
uhhh no that asssumes an equal amount of players will player everything and it also doesnt account for the fact that as the gamemode grows and gets updates more people will play
Mercury | MudBrickWallOPlast month
also arguing that something shouldnt be updated because of queue length is silly because you can extend that to any gameplay based update
zivlast month
I mentioned that "if ppl evently split", no need to erhm actually me.

I'm pretty certain that this feature request wouldn't really grow the game's player count - it's just ranked minus the ranks. Nothing fun was added.

And that's not silly. That's standard game design. If the queue system already takes longer than 60 seconds to find a match, then don't add new modes to fracture the player base even further.

the only main problem is longer q times
isawabellelast month
if you dont think qp is good comp practise you can either play blackout or try find people to play lobbies with here
idt having 2 unranked modes feels necessary

its entirely about rank from ranked thats the whole point
Mercury | MudBrickWallOPlast month
but tbf i shouldve phrased it differently its not really about adding more gamemodes more so about making non elo affecting games more viable for practice
Mercury | MudBrickWallOPlast month
aka either giving a new mode OR just adding customizing options for quickplay like boardsize and time which can be chosen by the players
Mercury | MudBrickWallOPlast month
this wouldnt interfere with queues anyways
isawabellelast month
i really don't think qp is that bad as a practising tool
isawabellelast month
and again lobbies exist with blackouts or you can try find people to play draftouts with

ya I get that, I sometimes wish qp was 5x5 as I felt like I was learning more from that but you can do blackout or private lobbies for practice too so its fine
Mercury | MudBrickWallOPlast month
not that its bad more so that i'd like for option to make it better
Mercury | MudBrickWallOPlast month
since shorter games and smaller boards (atleast in my experience) build habits where players will start fumbling as games drag on

i also get that lobbies seem to fix this and it is a good point but personally i think having random queues which allow for a better experience is bette then having to do a lobby with people just to get in decent practice
