Chainmail - Either Add or Remove Guarantee

Currently chainmail is a guaranteed trade from level 3 armorer villagers. In vanilla without this guarantee it would be 95%.
Chainmail chestplate also has a 17.6% chance to be found in woodland mansion chests. I believe it is typically ~5 loot chests per mansion on average, although this can vary significantly. I also might be wrong on the odds of chests generating. This would give chainmail also a high chance of being found in any given mansion. If one method with a high chance of success is being guaranteed, it makes sense to guarantee the other method that also has a high chance of success.

I understand the reasoning for the guaranteed trade, since on a seed without a mansion there is no alternative and it can be time consuming to get a 2nd villager. However, this does remove the variance of one player potentially being in a better position to level up a 2nd armorer, for example if one player got a stack of emeralds from a trial chamber. A vanilla 95% chance is much higher than the 67% chance for trades such as pumpkin pie or ender pearls but it still feels a bit strange to guarantee one trade but not others, especially when pearls are guaranteed from piglin bartering.

There is an issue with mansions that have 0 loot chests since then it can't be guaranteed since there's nowhere to force it. This at least has some skill in quickly recognizing that there are no chest rooms, although it does still force the player to enter the mansion to look.

leveling an armorer to lvl 3 after a whiff is actually 18 iron + 1 emerald, not a stack of emeralds
maskerslast month
hm yea idk why is it guaranteed when trades are standardised anyway
Lightninglast month
i dont think removing the trade would do anything good, except the game takes longer
Lightninglast month
but yeah also its standardized anyway

I mainly meant that if one player is chopping logs for emeralds, while the other player has a stack of emeralds already, getting a 2nd level 2 villager is easier.
It costs 26 emeralds to get it from level 1 -> 2, and 18 iron for 2 -> 3

Also the chance in vanilla is higher at level 2 than 3
ThreadfinnOPlast month
So if you have excess emeralds, in vanilla a 2nd villager is probably better, but in draftout you want the level 3 guarantee

GracefulBeautylast month
i think if you already have the emeralds, surely it's still better to go for a 2nd villager in draftout. but it does change the risk/reward in general ofc
GracefulBeautylast month
because iron and emeralds are separate resources so why not roll again
GracefulBeautylast month
unless you also have the iron :p
maskerslast month
also huh i was convinced it was guaranteed lvl 2 right now & 27 emeralds is always enough but i think im wrong yeah
GracefulBeautylast month(edited)
we could also add a guarantee to second lvl 2 armorer
so if lvl 2 armorer whiffs, you have guarantee on both lvl 3 and second villager to lvl 2 and can choose either one

ThreadfinnOPlast month
Yeah the guarantee is level 3, level 2 is still the vanilla 5/6
ThreadfinnOPlast month
that's an interesting idea
ThreadfinnOPlast month
I think that actually would be good
ThreadfinnOPlast month
Because say you get to level 2 and have no iron or emeralds left over. You could choose between either trading for more emeralds or trying to find iron, more vanilla choice without the risk that the emeralds fails.

In vanilla without this guarantee it would be 95%is it not
ThreadfinnOPlast month
Level 2: 50% to fail first slot. If fails, then 33% to fail 2nd slot. 1/6 to fail level 2
Level 3: 60% to fail first slot. If fails, then 50% to fail 2nd slot. 3/10 to fail level 3.
3/60 to fail overall, 5%.
Level 3: 60% to fail first slot. If fails, then 50% to fail 2nd slot. 3/10 to fail level 3.
3/60 to fail overall, 5%.

I'm not sure what the last 1/3 is for on what you put
maskerslast month
theres 3 slots in level 3?
maskerslast month
for the last lvl 3 slot
ThreadfinnOPlast month
no there's just 2 slots
ThreadfinnOPlast month
idk why the wiki says 3
ThreadfinnOPlast month
oh wait I do know
ThreadfinnOPlast month
In bedrock there's 3, both the lava and diamond trade are guaranteed and the rest are a 1/3
maskerslast month
oh thats bedrock only yeah mb
ThreadfinnOPlast month
tbh I hadn't even looked at that before, it is a little confusing on their chart
maskerslast month(edited)
it might be an overcook but you can try to standardise chainmail across all trades while keeping vanilla odds
ThreadfinnOPlast month
I see what you mean
ThreadfinnOPlast month
I guess I hadn't really thought about how just removing the guarantee at level 3 means one player might hit while one misses if they opt differently for 2nd villager vs level 3 after whiffing first level 2.
maskerslast month
so like say we whiffed on first lvl 2, then it would be
7/10 for it to exist on both next lvl 2 and lvl 3
5/6-7/10 for it to exist only on next lvl 2
1/6 for it to exist on neither
decent chance i messed up the numbers
7/10 for it to exist on both next lvl 2 and lvl 3
5/6-7/10 for it to exist only on next lvl 2
1/6 for it to exist on neither
decent chance i messed up the numbers
ThreadfinnOPlast month
that seems right
ThreadfinnOPlast month
I think the only issue is if you hit the 1/36 that level 2 misses twice, it would be hard to implement for the 3rd trade maybe
maskerslast month
the implementation would probably look something like
pick a number from 0 to 1
if the chance of you getting chainmail from match start up to that point is higher than that number, give you a chainmail trade
else don't give you a chainmail trade
pick a number from 0 to 1
if the chance of you getting chainmail from match start up to that point is higher than that number, give you a chainmail trade
else don't give you a chainmail trade
ThreadfinnOPlast month
That actually makes a lot of sense
maskerslast month
similar to how ranked standardises perch except on a lot simpler scale
ThreadfinnOPlast month
Yeah that would be easy
maskerslast month
i kinda dislike how its just a completely non vanilla mechanic youd likely not know that could affect your decision
like maybe you would go for chainmail earlier if you know its guaranteed
like maybe you would go for chainmail earlier if you know its guaranteed
Lightninglast month
i mean idt more than 5 people would even know the vanilla mechanic, but also i agree with you, why change vanilla when its standard already
Lightninglast month
ig it can be confusing when you always get chainmail so you think its guaranteed and then the 80th time you suddenly whiff
Lightninglast month
tldr im fine either way lol
