Remove getting mining fatigue while underground

I know it's not a common occurrence, but getting donged while you're trying to dig out of a cave is just instant softlock/loss without any real way to avoid or escape.
Suggestions for the when the player shouldn't get donged:
- if the player is below a certain Y-level
- if the player isn't in water

idk, i feel like removing it is kinda cheaty and un-vanilla

If u have a bed u could just death reset
Threadfinn2 months ago
Not if you were digging straight up
Threadfinn2 months ago
Only way out is death
Threadfinn2 months ago(edited)
If you are digging straight up and get donged while in a 2x1, you have to die (lava, fire, water, powdered snow). If you want to respawn there, you'll need to break at least 2 blocks to place an unobstructed bed (almost 5 minutes in stone with an iron pick) and you still could get donged again after.
BreadOP2 months ago
but if the vanilla game feature is unpredictable and just forces u to die and lose everything then i think its fine to change it
BreadOP2 months ago
perhaps the wording of "underground" is wrong cus its easy to hunger reset in a cave.
but i just got tilted from failing a blackout run cus i was digging straight up and got donged, and theres literally nothing u can do in that situation

idk why this is getting downvoted. it’s such a high rng element between players and although is part of the vanilla game, it isn’t appropriate in a competitive game

sugaarush2 months ago
there’s nothing skill wise a player does wrong if they blind in a cave and get donged
sugaarush2 months ago(edited)
unless there was some way to standardize mining fatigue; it’s the same reason it doesn’t exist in mcsr ranked
Threadfinn2 months ago
Yeah I understand not fully removing mining fatigue, since that removes skill when actually choosing to loot a monument or getting too close while boating past.
Threadfinn2 months ago
But if you blind into a cave, why should there be a 0.1% chance you either get softlocked or lose all your items
3
sugaarush2 months ago
yea
beniibobs2 months ago
milk the cave cows

4
sugaarush2 months ago
especially when there’s so much rng variance in blinding itself
Threadfinn2 months ago
you mean like this
Threadfinn2 months ago
I guess if it's possible to randomly get an instant win off a blind, maybe it's also ok to have a chance to instantly lose off an unlucky blind
Threadfinn2 months ago
Although this isn't supposed to happen on first blind, and only gives a few goals. But getting mining fatigue while digging up is the same as a full inventory reset.
maskers2 months ago
if the player isn't in watermakes it so that you can't get mining fatigue while mining gold for instance which is a way bigger change than the 0.1% chance of you blinding below a monument
maskers2 months ago
idrk how abusable would being below a certain y level be, you can now dig down right below a monument after getting a sponge
BreadOP2 months ago
the suggestions are just ranodm ideas i have anyway
BreadOP2 months ago
but i think y-level is the more realistic one
BreadOP2 months ago
if u get sponge might as well jsut go up and out of the monument
Threadfinn2 months ago
I feel like this isn't a huge issue, since there's usually still two guardians that could dong you before you get underground. It would still be a terrible idea to try and dig under the monument, just a bit less terrible than vanilla
maskers2 months ago
maybe you have one milk bucket idk
maskers2 months ago
it's just such a rare issue
BreadOP2 months ago
blinding low purposefully to get caved happens alot
BreadOP2 months ago
and just getting destroyed cus im tryna dig up is jsut bs
Threadfinn2 months ago
I agree it isn't a major issue, it's very similar to disconnecting resetting your world, but that is much more common
BreadOP2 months ago
and i dont think the y-level solution is that abusable
maskers2 months ago
i feel like wanting to go down under a monument is still a more realistic scenario than blinding below a monument & getting mining fatigue
maskers2 months ago
even ignoring the monument being a focus of a goal, wanting to go into a deep ocean cave is surely way more common than blinding
BreadOP2 months ago
then we can come up with more ideas like maybe if the player has had access to skylight before going down then they will still get donged or something liek that
BreadOP2 months ago
i just dont know why everyone just fully shut down this idea without even considering
maskers2 months ago
im honestly not even convinced on the idea with the perfect execution being good
when there's so much rng in blinding itself, does it even help to slightly reduce it
realistically you should be able to hunger reset with smth you have and keep playing so it doesn't also always lose you the game if you were ahead enough? and it doesn't turn into a boring cutscene of you having to dig up/down
also how avoidable is it, idk what is the dong range and what range do you hear guardians from

standardising only does something when both players are in the same scenario
there's no way both players would be in that scenario

I know that elder guardian gives mining fatigue 3, so maybe we can make that 1 or 2 because for instance a iron pick on stone take:
0,4 sec without mining fatigue
1,32 sec with mf 1
4,44 sec with mf 2
148 sec with mf 3
For comparaison, diamond pick on obsidian without mf is 9,4 sec

4,44 sec with mf 2
148 sec with mf 3

ArthurB2 months ago
So idk ideally mf 2,5 would be cool but idk if its possible
ArthurB2 months ago
Bc mf 2 seems to broken of a nerf imo
Artnauta2 months ago
4.4 sec per block is still painful I think that'd be a good change
Uniquepotatoes2 months ago
this happens extremely rarely i don’t think it’s worth spending time trying to “fix” it
ArthurB2 months ago
Yeah but when it happens, it ruins your game entierly
Uniquepotatoes2 months ago
no you can just hunger reset
Threadfinn2 months ago
That takes multiple minutes, and you still could get donged again
Threadfinn2 months ago
How do you place the bed in a 2x1 that you're in?
Threadfinn2 months ago
And if you don't set spawn and opt for a run back, you'll need to travel likely a couple thousand blocks, and collect milk on the way.
isawabelle2 months ago
i dont think we should change this
i agree with making it so you cant get mining fatigue if you're underground (personally i think a "if you're not in water AND below sea level"
but changing the mechanics of mining fatigue feels too far into the non-vanilla

maskers2 months ago
or don't set spawn and don't run back, depending on the board it could be very viable
Threadfinn2 months ago
Yes if you don't need any of your items it isn't that bad, but if death resetting to get back to spawn was helpful you likely would've done that already instead of trying to dig up from a cave
Threadfinn2 months ago
I'm still not fully in favor of it because there's always going to be a lot of rng no matter what, no point trying to fix such a rare occurence.
Threadfinn2 months ago
But I do think that in most situations in a close game, if this happens it becomes an almost guaranteed loss unless your opponent also dies and loses everything
isawabelle2 months ago
i'm fine with most rng since it like creates risk
but this is just rng, there's isn't really a "oh but you couldve dug up somewhere else" and its not likely to be rng your opponent gets either

StarFaint2 months ago
Killing every RNG element would kill some fun :(
isawabelle2 months ago
actually no nvm ig you can pie for guardian so it is avoidable
maskers2 months ago
i thought about it but i think it's a bad argument since nobody is going to do that
maskers2 months ago
wasting a few seconds is surely not worth it when the risk is so low
isawabelle2 months ago
yea idt its a valid argument to not prevent this from happening
StarFaint2 months ago
You can set rd to 2 to avoid getting cursed.
isawabelle2 months ago
rng is fine but i would argue getting mining fatigue randomly isn't exactly fun rng
maskers2 months ago
i don't think setting rd to 2 changes the chance of getting donged at all (?) could be lying
maskers2 months ago
definitely doesn't prevent it if you're under a monument
StarFaint2 months ago
It, however, is funny :)
isawabelle2 months ago
as a viewer maybe
isawabelle2 months ago
idt balancing for the viewing experience is good either tho
beniibobs2 months ago
Yeah i was messing with rd and sim dist and it looks like its not helpful
