Only unfreeze ticks once the match starts

I know standardizing mob wandering is a nearly impossible task, but if ticks are going to be frozen for the draft phase and most of the planning phase why not extend it all the way to when the player can start moving? There'll still be a small amount of time they can wander usually because the player can't generally complete a mob-based goal instantly, but reducing the amount of time mobs at spawn have to wander randomly would reduce the chance of a goal flipping just due to rng.

The only downside to this is it might remove having to adjust your line because of mobs wandering. (I just had to skip turtle egg early because all the turtles were in the water after just a couple seconds). But for most situations I don't think a few blocks difference affects decision making, just adds rng. And even if you do have to adjust your line because the mobs walked away, they might not have for the other player.

Unless it can cause lag for some people with all the block updates that can occur when the ticks unfreeze, then maybe just reduce it down to only 1-2 seconds before match start.

pretty sure it would cause lag with all the ai pathfinding, same thing happens when i increase sim dist
GracefulBeauty2 months ago(edited)
or even when game starts if my sd is 32, the lag lasts ~15s from ticks being unfrozen so it affects ~12s of game time

i saw someone suggest draftout could start your sd at 5 (or lower?) and gradually increase it to your actual sd setting to prevent early game lag. that would help a lot
ThreadfinnOP2 months ago
That might be good

SD in general is an issue since it can flip some goals but it's hard for a lot of people to run

i don't have an issue with lag, but curious what the best SD is throughout the run? i keep mine at max but i never know where to put it
emusic2 months ago
in otherwords, is there a good reason to lower SD if no lag/no immediate strat like hostile mob farming
GracefulBeauty2 months ago
it's board-dependent
GracefulBeauty2 months ago
low SD means animals don't wander but they also don't age up (which takes 20 minutes of being loaded and within SD), and bees don't produce honey, chickens don't produce eggs, armadillos don't produce scute
GracefulBeauty2 months ago
low SD also reduces hostile mob despawning (in a very specific way)
emusic2 months ago
i think i initially raised mine bc i heard its good for the bees, lol
emusic2 months ago
but yeah the despawning throws me
GracefulBeauty2 months ago(edited)
also low SD is required for endar, but you can lower it when you start and raise after
emusic2 months ago
edar is not the block entity pie (like for finding tc) right
GracefulBeauty2 months ago
yeah it's regular entity pie, like chest minecart or piglin brute or wolf, bee, fox, camel, etc whatever entity you want
emusic2 months ago
ok gottcha, thanks. i'll look more into the distinction between RD and SD for spawning/despawning as well

yeah, check out this thread if you haven't already https://discord.com/channels/1493030345048719483/1532884899948920912/1532884899948920912

i actually saved that thread, it is very informative but a lot of it went over my head lol
dumb question maybe: RD is what you adjust for pie'ing block entities, is SD what you would likewise adjust for pie'ing entites?

it's RD for both. basically within RD => visible and loaded, whereas outside SD => frozen in time
GracefulBeauty2 months ago
they don't do anything else
GracefulBeauty2 months ago
and if something isn't loaded then it's inherently frozen in time as well
emusic2 months ago
ooh the time thing is helpful
emusic2 months ago
thank you

SD for endar is good because you want to freeze entities in time so they don't wander around
GracefulBeauty2 months ago
but just lowering it to 5, not adjusting it to find the distance
emusic2 months ago
you are the best at explaining stuff ty

Personally, i get crazy stutters in those 3 seconds after tick unfreeze even on very low rd and 5 sim distance. would make early goals unplayable for people with bad PCs, so please no
