not sure if this is worth looking into but using coal to level up the armorer could be good to not have to deal with trading a separate villager for emeralds, for example i do 2 coal trades here with 30 coal and only use 15 emeralds, which only requires 1 fletcher instead of 2

if my math is right, emeralds saved per coal trade: 6, 6, 7, 6, 2

you can get a lot of coal from ocean ruin chests. it's ~4 coal per chest on average

shipwreck supply chest is 2.3 coal on average

so you could pick up coal as part of an ocean early/mid game route if chainmail armor is on the board and you don't plan on going to tc

like obviously if you get coal from chests it’s good to keep but I don’t think it’s worth going out of your way to get out of boat and loot ocean ruin chest for 4 coal

sometimes you can get other useful things from ocean ruins, like bt map, fishing rod (can unenchant for carrot / warped fungus on a stick, or use for bullseye etc), wheat, and gold nuggets for gold dandelion

If you crafted sticks once can't you just press space to get the same craft again.
So i think there is no need to hot key the planks into the crafting grid right?
I mean it's not the point of this strat yeah but just something i thought abaout

I tested you get almost half a stack of coal per tnt assuming it's placed in the center of at least a 3x3x3 cube, coal ore isn't too blast resistant

Or the rare ancient city line for coal if you also had kill/die to warden
