Unique Hostiles Consistency (Unique Monsters?)

At the moment as I understand it, killing a neutral mob such as an enderman, zombie piglin etc. will count towards the goal, even if they’re not — at that moment — hostile. Similarly, I think Camel Husks, Zombie Horses and Zombie Nautiluses should always count, not only when they’re being ridden. They always count for Monster Hunter, so it just makes sense.
Besides, I feel like you usually kill the mounts before the jockeys anyway, so it’s not like this would remove skill expression. Maybe I’m genuinely missing something here, but aligning this goal with Monsters rather than “hostile mobs” fits more with the sentiment of the goal, especially since other neutral mobs such as Iron Golems that can be hostile don’t count.

yeah it's deeply unintuitive for some mobs to sometimes be considered a "hostile mob", and sometimes not
DriftSythe2 months ago
I think monsters hunted advancement is a pretty good standard to implement

pretty sure its any mob that gives u monster hunter advancement and is required for monsters hunted

but the zombie horse and camel husk inconsistency is weird
Threadfinn2 months ago
And warden still counts right?
DriftSythe2 months ago
warden isn't meant to be killed according to mojang !
Threadfinn2 months ago
Yeah but then why does it have so little health?
Threadfinn2 months ago
They didn't think it through
Threadfinn2 months ago
It's funny they say the warden isn't ever meant to be killed then gave it less health and weaker attacks than the wither on bedrock hard mode.
Ramzs2 months ago(edited)
i think they decentivize killing warden by its abysmal drop
beniibobsOP2 months ago
oh right, so warden counts for draftout uniques but not monster hunter. if we wanted to keep that then we couldn't just align kill uniques with monster hunter
Threadfinn2 months ago
Back to the original part, I agree undead mounts should count for the goal regardless of whether they have a rider. The mounts themselves are always passive. Technically the mount itself isn't hostile when it has a rider, it's being controlled by the hostile mob riding it.
beniibobsOP2 months ago
i believe they are technically "hostile" when being controlled
DriftSythe2 months ago
they are bringing the spear zombies towards you I would consider them hostile
beniibobsOP2 months ago
Moving to "monsters" as a category could include all the mobs for monster hunter, as well as Warden, Skeleton Horse and Sulfur Cube.
blanket addict2 months ago
I feel like consistency with monster hunter is more important tbh
blanket addict2 months ago
just makes everything easier
Zinlag2 months ago
If you kill Warden as your first kill, will it count as monster hunter advancement?
Threadfinn2 months ago
no
Threadfinn2 months ago
But it does count towards the monster mob cap
isawabelle2 months ago
why would sulfur cube count its a passive mob
isawabelle2 months ago
i think unique mobs pulling from monster hunter makes sense, since unique foods (kinda) pulls from a balanced diet (like with how cake doesnt count)

Threadfinn2 months ago
It counts for the M mob cap
Threadfinn2 months ago
The only differences between monsters hunted and the Monster mob cap are warden, skeleton horse, and sulfur cube I think
isawabelle2 months ago(edited)
including a passive mob for unique hostiles seems like it'd be way more confusing
beniibobsOP2 months ago
this is also unintuitive though since we have kill warden as a goal but it wouldn’t count to kill uniques. plus you can just call the goal “kill x unique monsters” and all the player has to do is search up what counts as a monster in minecraft. we already include camel husk and zombie horses so I don’t get your objection to sulfur cube at all.
beniibobsOP2 months ago
I’m fine with either tbh, my main problem is with the inconsistency
isawabelle2 months ago(edited)
"unique hostile mobs" implies its mobs that are hostile (ie not neutral or passive), so including a passive mob just feels weird
i dont think theres ever going to be a clean definition for this goal though, since you could argue that spiders during the day shouldnt count or enderman or zombie piglins or piglins when wearing gold or camel husk/zombie horses without a rider
like idk i think monsters hunted + warden seems like the most sensible definition to me at least

No I mean just change the name to unique monsters
isawabelle2 months ago
actually yea ive looped back to agreeing lol, i still dont think sulfur cube should count tho
isawabelle2 months ago(edited)
dont ocelots also count to the monsters mob cap?
beniibobsOP2 months ago
might be similar to striders which are “internally referred to as monsters” despite being classified as an animal
blanket addict2 months ago
I think sulfur cube is way more unintuitive
blanket addict2 months ago
neither is intuitive but warden mattering for uniques should be a lot rarer than sulfur cube mattering
Jade2 months ago
Still better to have the one unintuitive case of sulfur cubes that would be easy to learn as opposed to the multiple unintuitive cases of mount monsters counting only when ridden
blanket addict2 months ago
I was assuming the mount monsters only counting when ridden was a draftout choice and that they always counted for monsters hunted
pinkpuff2 months ago
I remember early on being really excited i found a random unridden zombie horse and killed it and got the monster hunter advancement but it didnt add anything to my unique hostiles goal , to the point i drafted out a bug report because i thought it was a miss lol. So yeah if its renamed to 'unique monsters' and they count mount or not potentially that helps with that bit of clarity. But thats a very niche case
Uniquepotatoes2 months ago
the rider thing is dumb as fuck yeah

pinkpuff2 months ago
I mean i understand it in a sense because the horse is literally not hostile it just feels strange to get monster hunter and it not count
Threadfinn2 months ago
Killing a zombie horse with no rider and it not counting feels the same as killing a baby slime, or a zombie piglin and it not counting.
Threadfinn2 months ago
Baby slime can't hurt you so it's basically passive.
Threadfinn2 months ago
Zombie pig is the same as polar bear in hostility, polar bears are actually more aggressive since they can attack completely unprovoked.
beniibobsOP2 months ago
polar bears used to be classified as monsters but mojang reverted it
noura 🜛2 months ago
they fixed that recently iirc
beniibobsOPlast month(edited)
If u mean that's how it works atm, then no -- Warden counts for this goal but not Monster Hunter, and yeah ofc Zombie Horse, Camel Husk and Zombie Nautilus always count for Monster Hunter but only when being ridden for Draftout.
I think, rename to Kill Unique Monsters to justify keeping Warden, make them always count, and include Sulfur Cube and Skeleton Horse.

I don't think what technical mob cap is used for the mob should determine whether it's hostile or not. That would be strange
beniibobsOPlast month
Yeah so I’m suggesting changing the name to Kill X Unique Monsters. Because neutral mobs that aren’t monsters don’t count (polar bears, iron golems etc.).
beniibobsOPlast month
Whereas zombie pigs, endermen etc do count
Elliverslast month
untamed nautilus also become hostile when hit
beniibobsOP3 weeks ago(edited)
Just realised I never included Zombie Nautilus (or skeleton horses?) in my message. Ofc that is in the same category and should be considered alongside the other two. Regular nautiluses wouldn’t count if we go along the lines of “unique monsters”, and I don’t think they would otherwise count for the same reason that iron golems don’t.
