Add a guideline to disallow bumping suggestions

threads in the #suggestions channel are sorted by recent activity. while it has the benefit of promoting threads with active discussion, it does allow threads to be bumped to the top of the sorting by any user, at any time.

imo, there's no benefit to bumping suggestions that way, typing "bump?" and hitting enter doesn't speed up the process of adding the suggestion, and it doesn't promote any meaningful discussion. people just do it out of habit i guess?

i know adding a guideline won't make bumping impossible, but it does disincentivize doing it at least a little

I feel like it shouldn't be banned outright, but excessive bumping should be discouraged. I think there can be value in bumping a post once since maybe it got posted at a time when there was a lot of other activity and got buried immediately. And maybe once more if it was a popular suggestion but hasn't been seen in a while. But if the last few messages in a thread have all been bumps then it's clear there's no new discussion and there's no reason it should be at the top.

Imo the issue with sorting by activity is that if everyone agrees something is a great idea, there's no discussion to be had. The posts most likely to stay near the top are the ones where there is still discussion because some people disagree. This is beneficial for the discussion, but it can create the illusion that an idea is popular simply because it's been the top suggestion for a while when in reality it's the top thread because opinions are divided.

No it just doesnt do anything, i scroll and read through all of them. Well I guess itd be for other people to see and discuss, but it won't meaningfully change anything

Yeah it wouldn't help you see it, it would just be for other people. Idk if that actually matters though since you're reading more than just the title, so if you like an idea I guess it would be added regardless of whether it has 0 interaction or 20 upvotes.

I've wanted to make this suggestion in rankedcord for ages now but i thought that the suggestion would just get bumped to death as a joke while redlime rewrites the server or whatever

I think it might be a good idea to add a timeframe, like at least a week or something because I've seen people bumping day old posts which is silly, but weekold+ posts can easily get lost in everything. This of course doesn't matter if the owners just say something like 'we see every suggestion and take them into consideration, so you don't have to worry that we will miss one because it's lower down in the order'. If that is indeed the case that they will read each one, then bumping is not needed at all. If they don't have the time to go through all suggestions then idk.

i dont get why something having no messages for a while means it should be bumped?
some ideas are good ideas but clearly not priorities (eg spectator mode), and if the post has already been seen and had its time for discussion then it doesnt need resurfacing all the time

in rankedcord there was a 3 month inactive suggestion that i bumped because i wanted to make a similar suggestion and it got the convo back up and running and got a result on it
