Elo deranking suggestion

In many games there are derank protections, my suggestions are: add that if you are on above 1 RR on a rank and u lose you wouldnt derank and instead go to 0
and for full devisions, add ranked protection. for example if you get to 0 rr on amethyst 1 and about to go to gold 3, you will have 1 loss shield that will regenerate any time you go into a devision (if someone goes back to gold from amethyst and back to amethyst the shield will keep regenerating) (wont apply to ranks like amethyst 1-2/2-3)

i'm pretty sure this would require a separate elo system for the top division (warden)

unless the other player also gains less elo but i'm not sure if that makes sense

I don't really understand what is being suggested tbh

but I don't think anything should mess with the elo system, and I don't think it's good to have a system where 2 people with the same elo can be different ranks

for example, if you're at 1411 elo and you have a loss that would put you below 1400 elo, you would be put at 1400 instead

you'd have to lose twice in a row to fall below 1400

also i don't see any benefit to this elo system at all

for draftout at least

Yeah i assume this only matters in games where ranks do something different for you? But ultimately being 1099 vs 1100 changes nothing fundamentally except the color your name is so i dont see why it would matter to hold it

other games have derank protection but its effectively fake

because they hide your true elo

elo as a formula should never be modified to work different around arbitrary barriers

if draftout used hidden mmr and then a separate visible rank then we could lie to our players about their true rank/skill yes

obviously there are elo protections in a lot of good games so i dont think its necessarily a bad idea but i think draftout's community is competitive enough that most people like the fact that elo is the same as mmr and therefore prefer the current system. however if the game developed a greater casual playerbase i could see this being an ok idea

yeah i mean the whole point of a system like this is to protect the color of ur name its for player enjoyment and nothing else bc people like the cooler color

Basically the suggestion is to give exactly what Valorant has for derank protection. The issue is that elo gain in Valorant is based on a combinations of performance in that game and on your hidden mmr that affects how much you gain or lose. For this to work without causing crazy elo inflation, you also have to make it so every win is worth less than a loss, eg against an equal elo opponent if you win you get 25 but if you lose you lose 35. People already complain about that enough in Valorant, I think it would even worse in a 1v1 game like draftout.
