Remove World/Inventory Reset

From my understanding this is not a bug, but rather an intentional feature to prevent cheating by modifying the world files while the game is closed. The issue is that cheating still seems to be relatively easy based on how many cheaters there have been from a community that I don't think has a large proportion of cheaters, so this isn't really stopping anything. All this does is mean that if you get disconnected, which is happening frequently in beta, there's a chance you just lose the game due to losing progress on all remaining goals.

Yes I made this because I lost 2 of my last 3 games to this. (One was lobby 1v1 but still)

Also while this is made to prevent cheating (which it fails to do) it also introduces new ways of cheating by intentionally resetting the world to teleport back to spawn or reuse resources such as iron at spawn for multiple goals.

Like once I see this screen stay for more than a few seconds I have to make a choice between losing the match because I'm afk, or losing because I no longer have any items. Why is this an intentional feature?

It also fully resets your progress on advancement goals apparently.

Ideally we eventually have some kind of replay system like this idea https://discord.com/channels/1493030345048719483/1529403753940254843 (but perhaps also captures your inventory) which I think does enough as an anticheat that removing world reset would be totally fine

I think it's already fine to remove, there's already people using seedcrackers which this doesn't stop. It's harder to modify game files than it is to use x-ray glitches, which is still possible for cheating. And if you're too obvious with it you will get caught anyways.

And I'm sure there's some way to make sure the world file wasn't modified while the game was closed.

My internet has always been inconsistent, so I can't play certain games. As an example, any multiplayer game on steam becomes infuriating to play at times because I'll either get kicked from lobbies and be unable to rejoin, or in CS2 I die to packet loss spikes instantly killing me even when there's no enemies. This anticheat measure has stopped me from playing CS2, but it doesn't stop many of the cheaters the game is known for.

I don't want draftout to be the same, but if I can't win the 1v1 against my internet how am I supposed to play.
ThreadfinnOP2 months ago(edited)
Part of the reason I play valorant so much is because even if I have a short lag spike to 100% packet loss and 5000ms ping every five minutes, the other 4:55 are fully playable and that one moment of lag doesn't usually matter.

I would really appreciate this, most pvp matches dont last too long but with the feinboard going around but also just trying to do any random board solo these lobbies can take several hours to complete and it feels incredibly demotivating knowing that all of the progress can just be wiped at any time outside of my control so if not for comp at least have this disabled for lobbies/solo
Lightning2 months ago
it resets progress on every progress goal, it also bugs on craft x unique items, giving the sound always for a new craft even if the goal is completed already
Lightning2 months ago
people also use this to reset worlds so i feel like its used for cheating more than that it prevents cheating

yeah like honestly idk how the bugs that this measure prevents actually work but i cant imagine them being easier than just alt f4 ing the game to reset a shipwreck so you can do full iron tools into full iron armour for example
ThreadfinnOP2 months ago
It also prevents relogging to fix bugs, so sometimes what should be an easily fixable issue leads to an impossible game.

Bump
So many rules rely on the honor system, I don't think this is worth the tradeoff of ruining innocent games to stop a few cheaters. As long as boat crawl or f3a x-ray are still in the game, cheating is extremely easy and the only thing stopping people is integrity. Modifying game files is something far less people would choose to do over x-raying.

my opponent once died and immediately crashed which was Cool
Not accusing them of intentionally crashing but the fact that that can happen is So unserious

gg I missed this

i dont think that just because some rules relying on an honor system means that we should be making more kinds of cheats possible to do
if another way to prevent editing the world file could be added then sure, but idt removing the whole system should be done

I agree it shouldn't be made easier to cheat, but imo having the world reset makes cheating easier. IDK how to edit the world files, I do know how to close my game after I blow up a temple.
ThreadfinnOP2 months ago
And I generally agree that just because one thing is honor system doesn't mean everything has to be, but it shouldn't come at a cost to people who aren't cheating. There's probably more people who have lost matches to getting their game reset than would've lost to someone modifying the files if it weren't implemented.
ThreadfinnOP2 months ago
Also if someone were caught modifying world files and was banned (which would probably happen eventually), anyone that played them would be refunded their elo so no harm would be done. With the inventory reset there's no refunds, so crashing is worse than playing against a cheater.

One thing I maybe want to add based on: Rejoining same world after crash (for Lobby/Quick Play matches, Competitive will be considered) from the roadmap.
If it's first added for lobbies/quickplay it could get an idea of how common dupe glitches or any other issues are before deciding whether or not it would be a bad idea to to add to comp. Even if dupe glitches are common I think it's fine to keep in lobbies at least as an optional setting, but if it turns out there aren't any issues then it could always be added to comp later.

Probably already thought of this but just in case
