Heya, this has been an idea thats crossed my mind a few times and i just wanted to throw it out there, people might not like the idea but i thought it is interesting. Id also like to say im not a dev and no nothing about programming this shit and it could be insanely complicated i really have no clue
In-game, poll both players position and dimension every 1 minute/every goal thats completed. Once the game is completed, take those positions and plot on a Chunkbase/Cubiomes type map viewer on the website, allowing players to zoom in and out and look at what the opponent did differently.
One main thing this could potentially solve is players hackusating/instigating/or simply being confused how a player got a certain goal. E.G. Getting an Amethyst geode, or finding a specific structure. Instead of being frustrated, the player can check the map, to see where they got it and potentially if they had missed anything they should've seen.
This could also help catch some low-profile cheaters, e.g. if lines are insanely A-B or obviously gets a geode out of no where.
Otherwise i think its an awesome tool that just adds further functionality ot the website and could help players get better and learn
I have made a quick shitty mockup of how it appears in my head

This is obviously a solution over implementing a replay system, which i think is unreasonable for game lengths and world sizes like these

my fault for it being a copy

i think posts still relevant for giving more reasoning to it + how it could be displayed though

i like ur image concept more than my red line drawn on a chunkbase screenshot tho

i wonder if there can be a way to share the y level too, too see if they went caving

the color of the line could be a gradient, e.g. red could be -64 and green could be 100 and everything in-between is a proportional mix of the two colors

you give them a miners hat when they're below y 50

yea i thought the same but in this example the opponent and players color is different so idk how it’d work with that
sugaarush2 months ago
maybe a gradient between red to grey and blue to grey?

also a minor improvement - i think there should be a "show minimap" button on the match screen rather than the map being shown by default cause realistically after the hype for this feature dies down it will only be of interest in like 5-10% of the games and rendering the seed for every match could be costly

yea true

maybe it could be a gradient between a darker shade of a player's color to a lighter shade
RudyOP2 months ago
yeah no it woudlnt be by default that wasnt my intention with it

i would also note how awesome a live version of this just this existing would be for a commentary perspective for a playoffs tournament

I was thinking about this last night and I feel like an in game implementation with two lines in the world would be awesome too
like, you can have a slider changing the time value that slowly develops the line, just another way to visualize the same data more comprehensively hopefully without too much added work
