nakedhippo219587OP2 months agoin the many gaming servers I've been, they have this chat thing where they post a funny or awkward clips and people upvote and devote them
kinda like reddit just in discord
and the clip the most people upvoted gets a role name of "Clip of the week" with cool color ofc..
I know its not connected to playing or its just extra work for mods to remove and add the role every 1 week but its fun thing to watch randomness or weird stuff happening

the craziest clutch/ace/funny/insane clip gets a role + mentioned in another channel called

they can advertise it in their tiktok shorts or something 45s 1m clips
if it would be just normal channel then it's good as well
but I did adding a role for 1 week would be cool to have it
if they don't advertise they're self then why not you just collect funny clips from what people sent and upload (if people like to be in their tiktok or something many will post)

it definitely can go to the media but after 3m it will be gone and you probably not going to see it again
the point is to have a channel with this type of stuff only

for example if I want to upload a funny clip or weird moment in #media I'll not upload because I know nobody will react and it will just be there
as I said before about the memes server, FPS servers, gaming servers people upload more and get active to find a rare moments just to upload to try to get a role
for example if I want just search for pictures and videos in #media I can but it's just self react and no community reaction

this just happened to me
in about couple hours its going to be gone from media because people talk in post other stuff but mostly their massages are the ones that skip this insane moments
my guy was so cool he drove in and left and not only that he is polite he closed the door after him

well its probably not a good idea to drown out the suggestion area if you want other people to use this space to discuss the merits of a clip channel

the argument wasn't that they're the same channel
the point is that the discord staff clearly don't want there to be too many channels (which fair there's already enough imo), so stuff like a clips channel separate from media and a boards channel separate from resources can feel a bit like bloat

i think a good solution could be making media a forums channel so clips don't get lost as easily? but how it is rn is fine imo
just bc your personal funny clip got buried by other people messaging doesn't mean we need a whole channel so your clip is in the spotlight for a bit longer

i dont believe the mods' decision was based on whether a new channel would be popular, rather that any introduction of new channels adds clutter to the discord so i dont expect them to be keen on adding any new channels, including the suggestion made here.
that said, i would still like to see a clips channel, but based on what I've just said, you'll have to make it very appealing to people and by extension the mods, which I frankly don't believe you've done because most of your phrasing is around how you want your clips to get noticed and are unsatisfied with people not commenting on them in the existing media channel.

i think if clips want to be prioritised, i would rather see changes made to the existing media channel (eg making it so non-media messages get deleted, a forums channel etc) rather then making a whole new channel
ik the celeste discord has an achievements channel where any messages about the posts are required to be in threads instead of as text messages, but like it all feels a bit overcomplicating for a casual media channel

i still think clips and media are way too similar and i would prefer changes to the existing media channel to make it better at highlighting media over having 2 competing and very similar channels

I don't think making changes in media to just photos and reaction is a good idea
because if you want just to post a photo of something you were talking in #general-chat and you want to show a picture or something

its not a worry of it being unstable, just having a lot of channels can feel very bloated and be confusing for new members

I know the reason for not adding more channels is because it might feel bloated, but it currently does feel like there's two general conversation channels, and one you can also send images/clips/links that add to the conversation or start a conversation

I thought allowing media in general for purposes like shown above would be good. And then lock media to be media only. Allows for conversations to have supporting media without crowding out clips, and without bloating the server with extra channels. But this wasn't a popular idea I guess

the only problems are
the photo takes a lot from the chat
and trolls who can post very graphic photos just to griff

as of right now, we will not be changing the way the discord is organized. if you'd like to make a community discord server unaffiliated with draftout (as has been suggested elsewhere) go for it! you can post the community server in #resources
