Raft out Goal (x wood types)

objectives
What if there were goal to craft / obtain like 5/6 unique boats (I mean completely different wood types not boat-chests ) Could just as easily be unique doors or something but I like the 'raftout' pun.
I like the 4 unique sapplings goal but also that one can be cheesed in a fun way by bonemealing the moss blocks for flowering azeal. Also unique sapplings would be distinct enough from this- as sapplings has tech such as iron hoe to demolish leaves and other sources of sapplings.

Ok I like the pun but the goal should just be bamboo rsft

Don't need more goals that are mainly just inventory management

ride a raft goal would be fire

there definitely should be some sort of wood type goal though
blanket addict2 months ago
I feel like I see one suggested every week and I do think there should be one added
blanket addict2 months ago
it doesn't have to be this one in particular although boats are a good option if you want to leave the nether wood types out
Threadfinn2 months ago
Idk I just feel like it's not that unique
blanket addict2 months ago
I think it is it's most similar to 4 saplings but 1. shipwreck wood, pillager outposts, any non biome wood sources are usable and 2. it's faster to get the wood types than saplings (until you can afford an iron hoe then both are fast)

I think it's a really versatile exploration goal I honestly think you could have 2 versions of it, one where nether wood works and one where it doesn't

i like the log stripping one
Threadfinn2 months ago
On most seeds though I think it's just something else to get from shipwrecks. Getting more than 4 wood types from biomes near spawn seems unlikely, but idk.
Threadfinn2 months ago
While there's 7 potential from shipwrecks.
Threadfinn2 months ago
Usually I think it would be get oak and whatever 1 other tree is at spawn, then hit a shipwreck to probably get to 4.
Threadfinn2 months ago
But if there's no ocean and it's a desert/savannah spawn then I think it's a super rng endgame goal of just who can find more biomes first.
.reixyzOP2 months ago
i don't think ship wrecks is the fastest way tbh
.reixyzOP2 months ago
sure if you're already in an ocean you can pick up some unique logs this way but you can just as easily roll logs you've already gottten
.reixyzOP2 months ago
i think sprinting across biomes is actually fairly quick as almost every biome has a wood type

there a quest of collecting 4 types of different wood sapling
so why wouldn't it be this in draft as well? (ofc if having these 2 together in the same draft would not be good)

Yeah but the wood type in a lot of the biomes is just oak. You probably can also find birch fairly easily. If it's warm you can get jungle and acacia. If it's cold you can get spruce, maybe cherry. But in general these will be farther apart than shipwrecks.

it's the same mission just easier

I just feel like it's worse because the range of difficulty is so much more seed dependent than saplings. 4 saplings always requires at least some commitment to specifically that task. 4 wood types could very easily just be played exactly the same as normal on a shipwreck seed, except you get 1 birch tree and 1 oak tree instead of just 2 oak.
If there's no ocean and it's a tundra or desert then 4 wood types is a lot of exploration rng, same as saplings. You can follow the vegetation counter but on those seed types you very easily could go a slightly different direction than opponent and find wood significantly later.

I feel like when there's so many potential hits it's not really exploration RNG as much as it's just rewarding exploration in general
blanket addict2 months ago(edited)
exploration things tend to have RNG components but I don't think that makes them bad at all
Threadfinn2 months ago
I prefer exploration goals that require some commitment other than just finding the thing first. Like 8 breeds is a good one, exploring helps but if only decided to start after finding frogs and skipped over everything in the plains, then you would have to double back. There's also commitment there on making sure you have the correct foods, and some of the breeds require extra effort like taming. Wood you can just mindlessly get in a couple seconds, so all that matters is finding it first.
Threadfinn2 months ago
It's why I also don't like goals like die to iron golem on a seed with no village.
Threadfinn2 months ago
There's always going to be some rng in draftout and that's part of what makes it fun, but goals that are too rng aren't good imo.
Threadfinn2 months ago
And there currently aren't that many goals that require you to explore past spawn, it's just that it often is better to keep going to new terrain.
blanket addict2 months ago(edited)
I'm not convinced wood type based goals are too RNG though I feel like there's quite a bit of skill to how you go about exploring, wood type goals I don't think would really be like "find this one thing" goals in practice, I think they'd be more like "overlap wood types in the early game and then successfully balance exploration lines for the 1-2 wood types that you need to make up"
1blanket addict2 months ago(edited)
I feel like wood types are common enough that it'll usually be a time problem instead of a knowledge problem, and the RNG component is which player has faster access to wood types if both players diverge
blanket addict2 months ago
it should be a high enough number to not just be an early game goal though
blanket addict2 months ago
idk if that'd be 5 or 6 if it's overworld only, and then if nether woods work too add 1
Threadfinn2 months ago
If it's too high then the inventory management is the most important part, there's a lot of that already in draftout.
blanket addict2 months ago
it should be a pretty manageable number no matter what I figure and I don't think there's an issue to having more goals that involve inventory management
blanket addict2 months ago
because you should usually only have a few per board max and they won't always be relevant at the same times

Ig the main difference with boats is it discounts nether wood. In that case the 5 wood types you can get from ships is too powerful to make exploration worth it. Unless it’s lower like 3 in which case it’s a bit more early game and you can think about doing it when you’re in a jungle or dark oak or something

True, nothing wrong with a simple fast goal
