not viable for readability a lot of the time, people choosing similar colors etc.

trueeee, maybe only primary color and use set colors for secondary if its Doable. just thinking
Noodlepanda

how does that prevent similar colors?

maybe a color wheel that prevents the player from choosing colors in the range of the set colors instead of hex codes

If theres a way to be only seen that way on client side then maybe we also pick what opp color shows up as to avoid that potential confusion
marin

that could work, but it might show up as completely different colors in match history
marin

which creates a weird "desync"

why cant u just have client side colors
Uniquepotatoes

seems like a non issue

True but that doesnt seem like that big a deal when we already were randomly red or blue every game and have to check when looking at that anyhow? Maybe the website just defaults to standard red / blue anyway

I think a larger selection of preset custom colors is better than fully custom. Allows more expression while still being easy to support by just storing a color index or whatever. The 16 normal minecraft colors work well enough, and you could probably add variants to make 32 total while still keeping easily distinguishable colors.

I like how in rivals you can pick the exact hex code between you and your opponent, I don't think it'd be an issue if it was applied globally within the client only, like okay it's off if you go to the website but that's about it
I just don't see a useful positive for it being a global thing aside from being able to share it with your opponent, but I feel like that's kinda not worth it

honestly do like the mc palette idea actually I think there's enough for it to be chill

Is there a reason we dont just make it client sided

Then this issue becomes "simply dont set unreadable colors"

add orange please

because it would create desync for matchlist and watching matches side by side (currently, and for future tournaments) would be really weird

I think in a tournament setting you could just request/force the standard global red and blue for readability (and also set it for the matchlist on the site) but for side by side people can just read the names and figure it out on one end, it's not perfect but IDK I feel it's so finnicky to have the colors feel so random, when I'm playing I always occasionally will forget my assigned color for the match and maybe that's just a skill issue but I just feel that there's a better way to go about it

Wow that's a long run on sentence Mb

with the current system you just need to remember 2 colors and you will always be one of those 2 colors

we will add more colors in the future so theres even less of a chance that your color changes

I still don't think that's an issue. Like for match list in game/on website, it can just be whoever's account your looking at is always blue, and their opponent is always red (or whatever colors they picked). And for tournaments you just assign a color to each person so it'll look consistent. Most other games it's client side, the only one I can think of that isn't is CS but that's different because it's only used for communicating with your teammates

i wonder if for tournaments you could just have a setting that hides the board from OBS, then have the board only shown on a stream graphic instead
577
5772 months ago
that way there's no redundancy in player feeds either

Idk how doable this is from a mod but i know toolscreen does something similar with animations that only show on obs and stuff like that

Yeah I'd prefer client side colors, I do like the feature of custom colors but also I don't want to see my opponent's color be different for each game it throws me off a lil

I feel like you could just let everyone have whatever colors but then just have a setting to return to defaults at any time and that kinda solves all the issues in my head but maybe I'm missing something

Opp color changing every game seems annoying to play with imo

i think what a lot of people meant was a setting where you could change ur color and opp color so u have that fir every single match unless u manually change it again, not having to change it before every game

if that makes sense
