Play X Unique Note Block Sounds

objectives
This would be a more involved version of "Tune a Note Block" that requires more game knowledge and is a longitudinal goal like 10+ unique foods
There are 19 Draftout-feasible unique note block sounds, I think 10 is a fair number if it's a single goal, 5/10/15 could be good for a spread goal

some nice trial chamber overlap for 10/15 uniques
Pythoria3 months ago
I think this on top of the current one not replacing it
Pythoria3 months ago
But this is like my favourite goal suggestion I've seen
Pythoria3 months ago
It's like the map colours goal but not complete ragebait
closureOP3 months ago
yes it wouldn't have replace the current goal

hmmm i think it could also be interesting to have "tune a note block" replaced with a goal for specific noteblock sound variants
sugaarush3 months ago
i feel like not enough ppl know abt the block sounds at all
sugaarush3 months ago
like which blocks have unique sounds yk
sugaarush3 months ago
especially if u force a specific sound
closureOP3 months ago
that would be an alternative way to do it but i feel the knowledge check there is quite specific which means you can just wiki it at the start of the game and won't be punished, with "play X" you can probably guess a few blocks like wood/stone/sand, but someone who's good could be rewarded by looking for every opportunity to go for the task
sugaarush3 months ago
what does being good mean tho? like i feel like only a very small and niche community would know these
sugaarush3 months ago
i feel like unless you've spent time making noteblock music no one would know these
sugaarush3 months ago
and thats a very few ppl
sugaarush3 months ago
and the learning ceiling is super low too cause u can just search these up
sugaarush3 months ago
which is what most ppl would prolly do
closureOP3 months ago
i mean good at overlapping tasks and keeping all the unique sounds in your mental load
closureOP3 months ago
this is different from just seeing a list of all of them
closureOP3 months ago
learning the sounds isn't the problem, it is setting up a line with many possible unique items as opposed to just doing 1 item as the goal
5773 months ago
yea it definitely has a way different impact on the game
5773 months ago
my only concern with x unique sounds is that it kinda feels hard to balance, because a bunch of them are completely trivial so u need to make the number pretty high in order for it to have a significant impact on the game
closureOP3 months ago
Well you also need the redstone to begin with
closureOP3 months ago
Its kinda like spyglass in that way ig
closureOP3 months ago
But also sort of like foods or 4 seeds where you need to also look for certain items in the line

I feel like we shouldn’t be saying that potential new goals are bad because players don’t have the knowledge. Most people coming into Draftout didn’t know their sus stews but now I’d say most top players as well as many lower players (such as myself in gold) know them. A similar thing would certainly happen with note block.

I feel like there's already too many trial chamber goals
TNT4443 months ago
Unless you change the number to something like 5
jes3 months ago
just because this has overlap doesn't make it a trial chamber focused goal

bone block: nether/compost
hay bale, emerald, wool: village
iron: shipwreck/bt
soul sand & glowstone: nether
just as some examples

the copper variants are only like 10% compared to the whole pool of blocks that create unique sounds
jes3 months ago
you could also include mob heads

as a unique sound
Streakify3 months ago
Honestly doesn't look like a bad goal, main issue is really just knowledge
Streakify3 months ago
But it's not that hard if u get used to it
Uniquepotatoes3 months ago
i think this is like fine but yeah bit obnoxious to study allat for 1 goal
Pythoria3 months ago
From memory I can name: bone block, gold block, wood, wool, emerald block, glass, sand, stone, haybale, air
Pythoria3 months ago
If air counts
Pythoria3 months ago
So I know like abt ten
Pythoria3 months ago
If I'm correct
Pythoria3 months ago
And then there's always the mc wiki

Even if you don't know which blocks you specifically need, you can just try to random blocks and you'll complete it eventually.
The required knowledge is lower than for some other goals anyways

Id use the word "instrument" over "sound" but I like the overall idea!

to elaborate here, there are a few unique mob head ones, but the only viable one is probably skeleton skull if you have an ancient city line, everything else is much easier to obtain
jes3 months ago
yueah agree
jes3 months ago(edited)
or the rare chance you get wither skeleton head first try

LMAO

I’d definitely go for 10 as the best number for this. You can pretty much always get
* Harp (any other block)
* Bass (any wood)
* Bass drum (any stone)
A couple can be done anywhere:
* Guitar (wool)
* Xylophone (bone block)
Then rivers/oceans give a couple
* Flute (clay)
* Snare drum (sand/gravel)
* Hat (glass)
* Vibraphone (block of iron)
Villages can be good too:
* Banjo (hay bale)
* Didgeridoo (pumpkin)
* But (emerald block)
* Guitar (wool)
* Hat (glass pane)
* Chime (packed ice)
Nether is good too:
* Cow Bell (soul sand)
* Pling (glowstone)
* Xylophone (bone block)
* Glockenspiel (gold block)
* Vibraphone (block of iron)
* Guitar (wool)
* Snare drum (gravel)
Trial Chamber is also good:
* Oxidised copper
* Weathered copper
* Exposed copper
* Block of copper
If it’s 10, there are lines that exist outside of going to a trial chamber or the nether. You have a lot of options.
