Can't melee the dragon

So, I entered the End, did fullbow, exploded 2 beds, and was going to kill the dragon with iron sword. But the melee damage just did not registered. Neither head, nor body. I was also trying to jump (to make sure I reach the hitbox), but that did not help either. On the second rotation the issue persisted.

Idk what to add. Is this a known bug (I guess it is not draftout mod related)? Could I do anything if it happens again?
