I think overtakable goals as the lockout mod has them would also work in draftout, for example "have more hoppers than your opponent" or "eat more unique foods than your opponent". Maybe limited to one or two per game.
I think they're interesting, something to keep in mind the entire game while working on other goals. Potential downside could be that they can force a bit of a stalemate if one player is on 12 points and the other is forced to defend the goal.

i don't see stalemate being an issue, if the game isn't over there's always going to be another goal that isn't taken so it's not like you're forced to mine for hoppers for 30 minutes

There was one goal in the closed beta which was "more unique crafts". This resulted in a game of 12-12 where the other player already lost because they need to craft more while somehow doing the last possibly hardest goal on the board

i mean yeah, if the game was basically 11-12 with the first person also having a goal that can be overtaken, i think it's fair they're at a disadvantage

maybe it's bad if both players decide to commit to mining for hoppers at this point, which is totally possible?

this doesn't seem like an issue with unique crafts though
