Make the score of the game affect your elo

My suggestion is that the score of the game should affect how much Elo you gain or lose. I don’t think players should lose the same amount of Elo after a 13-0 defeat compared to a close 13-12 game.
I think this would make the ranking system feel fairer and help beginners avoid getting too frustrated. However, I also don’t think the difference should be too large — maybe a maximum difference of around 5 Elo for very close games.
I also considered making the score only affect the losing team, since winners still earned their victory, but I think that could eventually cause Elo inflation, so it might be necessary for both sides.

I completely disagree immediately. Considering the amount of strategy and variance that goes on into it. There are no sports or esport games in fact where this is the case, so no. If you've played a 13-12 game to the end, you want a reward for the effort you've put into that game.

how would you suggest this to work with forfeits

I would suggest this to not work

im not a fan of encouraging forfeits because otherwise youll lose more elo

That's not because something hasn't been done that it's bad but okay. Also your argument is also valuable for the looser side, if you played a really tight game but you loose you want the reward for the effort you've putted into that game, it's not like you lost 13-0. And you spend more time than a 13-0 match just to have loose the same amount. But i agree this is worse for the winner

it's weird to adjust the elo based on the score diff when the point of the game is supposed to just be to win at any cost

then I'm still right?

you want a reward for the effortelo is supposed to resemble skill, not be a reward

Then why would draw give you elo ?
Ciel6 days ago
??? Cause if you draw against a stronger opponent that reflects skill? Just like how losing elo against a weaker opponent does

Okay, these are valids argument, i still feel like there is something wrong with the elo system but this is probably not the solution, maybie it's the matchmaking idk.

i think theres just not enough people because if ur getting 13-0d u prob shouldnt have been playing that opp except for like placement matches
Dim_BananoxOP6 days ago
Ye, that's probably the case. They should maybie do a slower queue but more accurate for now.

i don't think placemens currently are accurate for everyone? especially if it's just based on the results of 3 games
Dim_BananoxOP6 days ago
That's also true

I played someone on my placement matches who is now top 5, he should have been rated higher probably

Now i will close the post since we are agreeing and that there is nothing to add :)
