There have been many times that, at a quick glance, it appears like the goal is already taken, since it takes up so much of the square (e.g. top left NQNL in the image).

yeah i don't know whats a good solution but id want it to be more visually obvious which goals are still left

I feel the best approach would be to put a translucent cross with the player color (blue, red) over the goals when completed

You could make the goal icons a bit smaller so there is more space around them to be coloured

yeah id like something like a wide cross over completed goals i feel like
currently i have to look at the 25 squares in order and think "is this square colored in?" instead of looking at the board at once and immediately seeing the squares that aren't crossed out

I was about to make the same suggestion, so glad to see this. I myself have missed some and also seen other streamers miss goals because of the visual.
