Making way-arounds to end-related objectives

objectives
I make a new threat since this isn't directly about removing end objectives but about reshaping them.
I feel like, given the problem with players that have no speedrunning experience and in order to still value speedrunner's skillset in Draftout, the end-related objectives can be reshaped in order to have plausible alternatives and yet still value beating the game as a quick way of solving them.
Right now, for what I've seen there are only three objectives that kind of satisfy this versatility, which are "die to the void", "explode an end crystal" and "reach XP level 20". The objectives that can now only be obtained by entering the end are "enter the end", "eat chorus fruit", "obtain end rod", "obtain dragon egg" and "brew a lingering potion".
Here are a few ideas:
- Change "enter the end" to "teleport 400 blocks away" (with a gateway/ender pearl image), which can easily be done by entering a gateway but could also be done with stasis chambers or some weird tnt or minecart tech (which is hard but also new for almost everyone). You wouldn't get this by dying or changing dimensions.
- Change "obtain dragon egg" with "get any <<goal>> advancement type", which can be done by: getting a dragon egg, curing a zombie villager, collecting dragon's breath, getting an elytra, summoning an iron golem and using an ominous trial key. I exclude the "challenge" type because of "return to sender", which is pretty slop.
- Change "brew a lingering potion" with "summon an area effect cloud", which can also be done with creepers if you get them to behave.
- Add a "reach XP level 30" objective, which can be done quite fast by killing the dragon but can also be obtained by overlapping some tedious quartz strats in a long run or with hoes in a deep dark, for instance.
- Add "get thrown 70 blocks in the air", which can be done with the dragon or tnt high% tech.
- Remove the rest of end-exclusive objectives.
These are just ideas, but hopefully I was able to share my point.

I see now that I've missed the "goal" type advancements of getting a full power beacon, postmortal and respawning the dragon. I think that the only important one that I've missed is the totem one, but well this should show up in the advancement tab for any player.

in all the dedsafio and twitch rivals bingo events non speedrunners do fine, they just learn the bare minimum to get to the end and it's good

I actually like both of them. Mind that the alternatives should be hard to execute in order to be comparable with the possibility of entering the end
Tacomonsterlast week
you could also do level 50 goal which is probably fastest with dragon kill

True, but for that I feel like the end strat would be a bit too dominant. For the same reason I believe that the "tp far away" should be about 400 blocks and not a thousand like gateways
Tacomonsterlast week
you could probably mine quartz for it right
Tacomonsterlast week
not sure
Tacomonsterlast week
maybe 40?
Sugus846OPlast week
It's so slow man
Sugus846OPlast week
40 maybe I feel it could be done with a quick mob farm or deep dark
Tacomonsterlast week
yeah
blanket addictlast week
I don't like anything above level 30 personally
blanket addictlast week
level 30 is good but like by the time dragon kill is the best method or nearly the best method, the alternative option is "mine quartz for 10 minutes"
blanket addictlast week
so it'd either be another kill dragon goal or it'd be the worst
blanket addictlast week
I don't think there's any middle ground xp tech between mine quartz and kill dragon
Tacomonsterlast week
mob kabob is goal and its super easy compared to the rest of these right

This is cool and feels very much in the spirit of the game
Coreybirdolast week
lingering potion can be done with trial chambers
Sugus846OPlast week
True, forgot about that
Sugus846OPlast week
I feel its cool anyway though
Droidlast week
is it not misleading to phrase goal as "brew lingering" if grabbing from dispenser works
Droidlast week
that goal should be reworded anyway

I was thinking the same this night. The one I'm actually most proud of is the teleport one, since it can be done in a lot of different situations and you'd actually have to think of it on the fly. In temple runs, for instance, you could try to do a tnt-redstone setup that launches the enderpearl far enough if you time it right. In runs with a lot of iron you could get five minecarts and get them to run in order to generate monentum. In other runs you could get soul sand and return to the ow and build a stasis chamber with whatever activation method you can think of (hopper discharging clock, burning a planck, daylight sensor, fucking frost walker armor stand...). And the thing is that all of these are complicated and time consuming, but not that hard to think about, which would actually produce a lot of games where the best thing you can do is to go to the end and kill the dragon.

I believe sculk and nether roof pigman is faster than quartz but maybe I'm tripping too much
maskerslast week
die to the voidhow do you do this otherwise? breaking bedrock is a non-allowed glitch as far as i know
get any <<goal>> advancement typeisn't an iron golem much simpler, i don't see people going for dragon egg then
Remove the rest of end-exclusive objectivesi feel like theres already very little? i definitely like goals having alternatives but i wouldnt want to flat out remove end goals
maskerslast week
i was assuming itd check for you grabbing the potion out of a brewing stand
blanket addictlast week
sculk you have to find it idk how much faster it is once you do
blanket addictlast week(edited)
quartz falls off but I think that dragon becomes the clear best strat before anything else does, once mine quartz is the best xp strat I think there's no xp level where you'd rather do something besides kill dragon or mine quartz (unless you find skulk which is a similar thing to mine quartz)

For the void one I believe there are methods that allow you to clip through with horses. Idk if it's possible with a boat or a minecart though.
About the goal advancement type I actually agree with you and @Mittens, so maybe something in the tracks of "get an X type rarity item" could be a better objective to consider.
Now about removing the rest of the objectives that can only be done in the End, the original issue that I tried to tackle with this threat is the fact that speedrunning has evolved so much over the years that now we tend to take for granted some strats that took years to figure out. And the thing is that this game has a lot of potential amongst people outside of the mcsr community, but as now pretty much everyone here at least knows a little about ranked speedrunning, we tend to bias End goals as easier than they actually are for the average survival player. That's why I figure that making creative way-arounds to endgame objectives is a good way of keeping everyone happy within the spirit of the game and making sure to equally value everyone's skillset.

oh nvm that makes more sense since local brewery adv works that way
