I can appreciate that draftout is fun and works really well at a high level, but for players who are not as good it just makes games drag forever
skill issue? yes
but i think a 4x4 board (first to 8? ik its an even number but) would work better, this game was pretty much wrapped at like 30 minutes when i was 10-7, but opponent stopped trying and I just couldn't get the stuff i needed lmao

I spent like 20 minutes just finding Melon / Tropical fish so its also luck based a bit

but like the 4x4 idea for smaller elos, but if they suddenly go up, they would be suprised and not ready for 5x5 which will prob give a bit advantage to better players

yeah like the last ones there were:
- wander for a geode
- wander for a snow biome (was all savannah)
- wander for another plains village (opponent got pigs late late)
- grind at a village for 20 lvls (what i did)

true, but thats at like coal 1 level and i would slightly like to think i am more competent than that (i am iron 1) (but also you can use the wiki for help which is different ig?)
ryvelinalast week
my last game took 1 hour 55 minutes
ryvelinalast week
at 55 minutes it was 12-9 and then i was stuck for the entire last hour and lost
BomberOPlast week
maybe keep 5x5 but have it so its like 10 to win instead of 13?
BomberOPlast week
like draftout is fun but ultimately its stopping me from queueing knowing that i need to have the next hour set aside to play
tacopizzalast week
Ive had that to it was prsttt close till like 7-7 but then my opponent went nether earlier and it was basically over after 25 min but we ended up playing for like an hour

idk about making board smaller but only requiring 10 to win or smth could work
Slayer 2last week
cause if board was smaller you could still get really hard ones you have to do
chair :3last week(edited)
maybe have a casual mode for smaller grid size would be good and doable without throwing off how ranked plays
Slayer 2last week
I just read the info and I think casual mode ends after 30 mins so whoever has the most at that time wins i assume
1111
Slayer 2last week
so casual dosent end in deadlocks anyway
Slayer 2last week
could be wrong tho/ misinterpreted the rules
Dexylast week
maybe having the harder goals be less likely to appear in lower elo? havent really seen all the goals idk if the problem is goal too hard or Too many goals
Dexylast week
ah i see
bunkeredlast week
this is only true because there is no way for ranked to make the game shorter, unlike draftout which has the board size variable
SOOTlast week
after playing quick play I think this is pretty needed, i think lower elos should have a 4x4 board, and if both players go 8-8 a random goal is announced or something for a tie breaker (having it earlier would prob be more fait but less hype) for reference im a em player when it comes to mcsr ranked (not directly correlated with draftout skill but just giving some sort of reference) I got 8 goals in 30 minutes, I feel like this would be the ideal time that a match is finished in competitive mode something like 40-50 mins feels too long, idk maybe its just me
SOOTlast week
although in theory getting goals in competitive would be faster due to drafting, allowing you to choose goals that fit your route better, but I still feel like this is good
BomberOPlast week
just played another match and wanna bring this up again, between us a single achievement had been gotten in the last half hour, each of the tasks are basically just blind searchathons that can't be overlapped really and just take forever, i'm sure it works in higher elos but like
BomberOPlast week
i've spent half an hour looking for pufferfish or a geode
BomberOPlast week
i can not be arsed to do one of those, then have to repeat for 2 more in the off chance my opponent doesnt randomly pick the same as me
BomberOPlast week
the games just take too long

SOOTlast week
if not smaller board time limit at lower elos would be good imo (but I heard they dont want to do that)
BomberOPlast week
i think i'd prefer a first to ten or something, so there's still skill in picking which ones to go for

Change win condition for lower elos
DriftSythelast week
imo just play quickplay if you don't want longer games
1
DriftSythelast week
the point of ranked is to be competitive
SOOTlast week
it can be competitive without 1 hr long matches for lower skill players
BomberOPlast week
from experience when it hits like 50 minutes the games pretty much wrapped its just busy work for the rest
BomberOPlast week
and its fine in higher elos because the game can be finished quick
SOOTlast week
its like how ranks below emerald dont have bt
DriftSythelast week
also this would increase queue times
BomberOPlast week
do we know if queue times are an issue at the moment
DriftSythelast week
1 seed type is not equivalent to changing the board size imo
DriftSythelast week
idk but it's just a thing it would affect
BomberOPlast week
for me i've always insta queued but idk
SOOTlast week
not rlly?
SOOTlast week
just take the avg of players elo
BomberOPlast week
^ will say i think changing board size is a shit idea, i am more in favour of having the win criteria be 10 spaces instead of 13
SOOTlast week
yeah im fine with that, I just think the games shouldnt be as long
Nindqlast week
We all queueing quickplay until we average 30m
41SOOTlast week
was about to get a 33-36 min completion with 12 achievements then my opp ffed
SOOTlast week
wouldve been my first one too
Bompkinlast week
cant get behind it -1

The game settings (in general, how game works, including goals, drafting, board size, etc.) will remain the same for all ranks in competitive mode. Our approach to this is, if you arent ready to play competitive or arent having fun playing it, means its not for you. You should be playing quickplay instead. Thats the rules of the gamemode, there is not time limit, so you are going in with an expectation that game may take as long as it takes.
Its also planned to change how random goals work in quickplay, the difficulty of them will depend on your internal elo more.
