Opponent interacts with Furnace

objectives
Goes by the first player to increment the in-game Statistics page, or equivalent. Blast Furnace and Smoker do not count, inserting+taking items out of the Furnace with a Hopper does not count.
This could force players to use extra resources if they need to smelt and potentially also overlap with other goals like Obtain 7 Job Blocks and Have the Most Hoppers without being too oppressive (like a Crafting Table interactions goal)

hmm this could be interesting. there have been similar "opponent does x" goals in lockout (and maybe some in the closed beta but idr) that can be cool but sometimes they end up being pretty unpopular, since they often just serve to slow down the game

one big downside as well is that it could deadlock games at 12-12

i think for that reason, "opponent does x" objectives generally don't work for draftout

Good points, I didn't consider the 12-12 case and it definitely would slow games down, especially on a non-village mining seed

bc you have no easy way to obtain a blast Furnace without using 10 iron

But since you only need one hopper and most seed types do have 5 iron for hopper+a normal furnace, maybe it wouldn't slow down the game too much

Tho I guess it wouldn't be fun to draw at 12-12 after a 90 minute game lol

Actually do I see "Opponent obtains Crafting Table" as a goal on the wiki so maybe this is similar idk

A 12-12 deadlock could be prevented if something like this was implemented by changing the last goal immediately if detected as one of the “opponent does __” types, either as a quick vote or random goal, though this may remove some skill in that the new goal could favor one player over the other so im not entirely sure

I don't really like opponent does X goals, when playing w/ the lockout mod they were usually not satisfying to win and felt very random. The effect they have on the overall game can be interesting though, and I think there's potential for 'match modifiers' that stop you from using a furnace, or kill you when touching water, etc. which would be essentially the same. Maybe as a limited time mode or something

I think it only makes sense if your opponent was in the same world and you could force them to do something e.g. take damage

yeah, which you could do in lockout, but even then a lot of the time your opponent would just accidentally touches water and it didn't feel deserved

opponent does x goals don’t really work for draftout as there’s no way to “force” an opponent to do something
Coreybirdolast week
like touch water or fire, you could bucket them
Coreybirdolast week
but since you can’t interact with your opponent they could theoretically just go afk

The only way I see to not force a 12-12 is for at least one of the other goals to require the player to do x thing (either a goal requiring it is already on the board OR a future choice will be between two goals that require it), which I could actually see creating some interesting situations. I think that’s worth considering

i don't think this would really solve anything? lets say a game is 12-11, and the final two objectives are "smelt an iron armor piece" and "opponent uses furnace". the winner is effectively guaranteed here, or am i missing something

if the game were 11-10, maybe the winning player would want to trade one objective for another to make it 12-11 (probably if they have another objective lined up to quickly do), so it does make it slightly more interesting, but if they end up being the final two objectives the losing player has nothing they can do
